Primary School wins Community Benefit award

ADP has won a RICS North East Renaissance Award in the ??Community Benefit?? category for the design of Jesmond Gardens Primary School.

The project has been recognised for its positive impact on pupil behaviour and increased interest and engagement from parents in supporting in their child??s education.

The 315 place school in Hartlepool is designed around principles of transformational learning, which encourages the use of personalised, independent learning approaches that reflect a child??s stage, rather than age. Hartlepool is in the top 10 per cent most deprived areas nationally, and the council saw the ??stage not age?? philosophy as a key driver for positive change for the community. In less than twelve months, SATS results have improved, absenteeism has been reduced and children??s aspirations have increased. The school is now over subscribed for the early years.  Parents are now encouraged to visit and enjoy the new environment, sharing in the learning experience of their children.

Developed in consultation with the local community, ADP led design workshops with children and extensive consultations with parents and the public. This included ??living?? in the old school for two weeks to understand how the needs of the school could be addressed in the new design.
