As an industry leader in installing lifts in timber buildings, Ideal Lifts were selected early on in the design stage as the lift providers for TOG’s Black & White Building.
With nearly two decades of specialist experience and knowledge in the design and installation of passenger lifts for timber construction, they were able to offer a unique solution with their Ideal Lifts Frame System; this system not only allows for typical vertical timber settlement but also the additional challenge, for lateral movement, that comes with engineered timber.
The lift frame system was upgraded to allow for these movements to ensure the lifts remained in service during any early building fabric movements, an issue which can make the lifts inoperable, unreliable, and requiring major remedial works.
Simplifying design and construction of shafts is one of Ideal Lifts core values, which is a major benefit for OFFSITE manufacture. One example is that the fire lining of the lift shaft can be completed prior to site assembly of the frame system.
A holistic design culture reduces difficult construction details and removes the necessity for landing entrance rebate cut outs, making lift easier for everyone.
The frame was designed to incorporate lifting beams, required for ongoing maintenance. This in turn removed all the lifting eyes by the contractor at the top head of the shaft reducing transport visits to a difficult city centre location contributing to lower transport emissions.
The Frame System is not only designed for timber buildings but for all Modern Methods of Construction including the increasing use of Modular and Light Gauge Steel construction.
Main MMC uses of the Ideal Lifts Frame System:
- Speeds up the construction programme by reducing reliance on skilled construction labour on site.
- Use of standard modular walls without additional steelwork.
- Exceptionally lightweight compared to heavy concrete shafts, vastly reducing foundation costs as detailed in the Overbuild Report.
- Ideal Lifts Frame System includes for all steel work, all lifting beams and pit ladders negating the need for scaffolding or the building in of specialist inserts within each wall and entrance.
