Case Study: Aspex

Aspex has been making waves up and down the UK with two developments in Leeds and London specifying its Novista system and doorsets for the student and residential developments.

Aspex leeds development

Leeds developments
Aspex, one of the UK??s leading architectural ironmongery and doorset companies, has secured two major projects in Leeds city centre.

Aspex will be supplying a total of 800 of its Novista Riser Doorsets to St Albans, an 18-storey student accommodation, and Wellington Place, a new 22-acre urban quarter which will include mixed-use buildings of offices, residential, retail and leisure.

The projects both required a contemporary door finish to match the interior surroundings. Aspex has pioneered the technique to factory apply 2 pac primer to the riser doors, enabling the use of regular emulsion to achieve perfect colour matching. This special primer is textured to allow emulsion to key into the primer giving a scratch-resistant surface.

Ashley Burberry, Managing Director of Aspex UK, said: ?We are delighted to be supplying our doorsets to these prestigious projects in Leeds. The Novista Riser Doorsets have really taken off in the market and specifiers are seeing the real benefits of investing in minimalistic doorsets.

?Regardless of whether it??s a student scheme or a commercial development, the doorsets provide a contemporary solution to perfectly blend into any interior surrounding.??

The Novista system is available with either a timber or steel door leaf and is suitable for a wide variety of projects with single, double, triple, and quadruple combinations available. It can be factory painted to any RAL colour or primed to allow on-site painting for precise colour matching with the adjacent wall.

The Novista Riser Steel is suitable for locations which require either a very high fire or acoustic rating, and are fire rated to up to FD120 and acoustic rated up to 40dB. The Novista Timber Doorsets are fire tested to FD30 for a single open inward door, and both a single and double outward opening door.

Shoreditch development
Aspex has also secured a contract to supply its trio of doorsets to a residential development in Shoreditch, London.

Aspex has supplied its Novista system to The Makers apartment development on Nile Street, which comprises of 175 apartments over 28 storeys, with private roof gardens, lounges for ad-hoc meetings, and a co-located college.

Working alongside architects Avanti, and designers Woods Bagot, the project required a minimalistic and sleek design to match the interior surroundings which includes smoked oak apartment entrance doors and bespoke brass ironmongery. Within the apartments, Aspex has supplied its Novista hinged and sliding doorsets, all of which meet the architectural demand required for the project.

Ashley Burberry, Managing Director of Aspex UK, said: ?We have noticed that there is an increasing demand for functional doors on residential projects because they disappear from view, offering a finish that matches the surroundings.

?Regardless of the project specification, minimalistic designed doors complement any interior structure and our Novista system has provided the ideal contemporary solution for this project.??

Aspex has supplied its Novista Doorsets to all of the internal apartment store cupboards. These include a TUT doorframe fully concealed within the wall, and a factory painted white door leaf that blends into the wall, giving a visual effect of creating more space.

The company has also supplied its Novista Pocket Sliding Doors to the en-suite bathrooms in the apartments. They open into the wall cavity to save space, whilst the soft closing mechanism and nylon rollers ensure that the doors close safely and silently.

Within each apartment, access is required to a fan cooler unit and the Novista Riser Steel Doorsets have also been selected as they have an acoustic rating of 41dB, therefore preventing any unwanted noise with the frame fully concealed within the wall.
