ReardonSmith completes another phase in 11 Cadogan Gardens Hotel

ReardonSmith Architects, along with with hospitality and F&B designers, Goddard Littlefair, and contractors, Phelans Construction Ltd, has completed a further phase in its comprehensive redevelopment of one of London SW1??s most beloved hotels, 11 Cadogan Gardens.

Cadogan Gardens

In a significant architectural intervention, the practice has opened-up the building to the rear, achieving a front door onto Pavilion Road, the new ??village high street?? in Chelsea, and creating Hans Bar & Grill, which incorporates the existing hotel restaurant, a former outdoor courtyard and a retail unit on Pavilion Road.

As a result, not only does the hotel now enjoy an exciting and relevant new restaurant & bar offering, its new façade harmoniously integrates the hotel into the retail community street scene that is transforming Pavilion Road.

The Hans Bar & Grill project has strategically unlocked underused interior and exterior space converting the existing lower ground hotel restaurant into what is now an elegantly dressed procession of spaces, increasing the number of covers to 106.

The memory of formality is softly retained within the curtilage of the existing hotel restaurant. Refined timber panelling, coupled with a succession of elegant wine displays, capture the essence of what used to be and create a comfortable transition from the hotel. This flows through to the new, more informal dining space and finally steps up to the café/bar area with its exposed brickwork vibe.

From within the dining room spaces, diners are treated to glimpses of animation through the open pass, into the hotel??s kitchen, further adding to the intriguing sequence of spaces. Daylight floods through two sizeable timber lanterns which are positioned at each end of the new dining area. Here, the botanically themed material pallet is further enriched by hanging topiary, which gracefully cascades from the lanterns, acting to frame the views beyond of the brick faced mews buildings that flank Pavilion Road.

?This is a bold and significant development for the hotel,?? says Gary Kellett, ReardonSmith??s Project Architect responsible for all phases of work at 11 Cadogan Gardens. ?The site was very compact but with careful planning we have been able to seamlessly connect the new restaurant extension to the hotel, giving hotel guests the wonderful opportunity to exit directly into the neighbourhood of Pavilion Road. The new additions have very much completed the 11 Cadogan Gardens experience while creating an exciting and contemporary destination for the locals and visitors within the heart of Chelsea.??

Two years ago, ReardonSmith completed the reconfiguration and renovation of the hotel??s guestrooms for the property??s owner, Cadogan. The practice is now completing a further upgrading of the hotel bathrooms as well as the four retail units and two apartments in Pavilion Road adjacent to Hans Grill & Bar.
