Farrells granted planning for West London scheme

Farrells and developer Dolphin Square Foundation have obtained planning permission to develop 28 housing units in Gorleston Street, West London. The scheme will be split over 3, 4 and 5 storey brick buildings; composed of a mix of intermediate and private rental apartments, in an L-shape footprint.

Balconies, roof terraces and a communal courtyard garden provide private outdoor amenity space for all residents, whilst green roofs, living walls, photovoltaic panels and quality material selection ensures the highly sustainable development can achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 4. The project is due to start construction in early 2013, with an expected completion in 2014.

Gorleston Street will feature in the New London Architecture (NLA) Housing Exhibition, hosted from 31 October to 21 December 2012. The exhibition will take place alongside a range of events around the topic housing in London.

London’s population is growing and the capital needs to build around 30,000 new homes a year just to keep pace with the number of new households. An NLA exhibition, launching this Autumn, will look at how well the capital is keeping up with its targets, who is delivering new homes, the funding and policy context, exemplar projects, and new and imaginative ideas for designing and delivering new homes for London.

The eight-week exhibition will take place at NLA??s galleries at The Building Centre in WC1 and will be accompanied by a publication, conference, talks and tours, addressing the issues affecting the design and delivery of London??s homes. The exhibition area will be divided into two sections – the first is an analysis of the state of housing provision in London at the moment, looking at issues surrounding supply, construction, standards and political ambition. The second will be a showcase of exemplary projects showing the contribution that good design can make to the London environment across the spectrum from affordable to prime. Farrells Gorleston Street housing scheme will be included within this section – presenting new and imaginative ideas for designing and delivering new homes for London.
