EGGER is best known as a design leader in the wood panel market, on products such as MFC and MDF. Following recent investment in extra capacity and the launch of their new ZOOM range, EGGER is set to continue their market share expansion of the UK sheet laminate market. Laminate continues to be a staple product in the commercial interiors market owing largely to the hard wearing and durable nature of the product allied with the huge advancements in reproduction quality seen in recent years.
EGGER has recently increased its capacity by 4.5 million square metres to 27 million square metres, consolidating its position as one of the largest laminate producers in Europe. Nick McClughin, EGGER??s head of marketing for the UK and Ireland says: ?The recent launch of our ZOOM range, where we added 32 new designs, along with the growth in laminate capacity, has enabled us to increase stock availability via our network of nation-wide distributors. This means that all 108 designs in the range are available quickly to fabricators, manufacturers and shopfitters, which is especially important with project deadlines often so tight.
?In addition to the standard sheet size of 3050x1300mm we have also introduced a select range of laminates in a size suitable for doors (2150x950mm). This means that users can increase efficiencies and cut waste by using a laminate sheet size similar to a standard door, rather than an oversized sheet.
?And, as we also produce all 108 designs in Melamine faced boards as well as laminate, more and more customers are coordinating the matching materials throughout a project. For example, in a hotel they may use the door size laminate for the door, co-ordinate it with the same décor in MFC for the wardrobes and use regular size laminate for the desk. This can help save project costs and ensures the continuity of the design, since they are all available through one manufacturer??
Conforming to standards
EGGER says that there is still occasional confusion over whether there is a difference in the performance of laminate produced in a high pressure press or via a continuous press. McClughin explains: ?Our laminate is produced on a continuous press, which simply means that the sheets of paper that make up a sheet of laminate are fed in simultaneously and pressed on a high pressure conveyor, rather than cut to size and then pressed in a high pressure ??daylight?? press. Whatever the method all laminates must conform to EN438, which of course ours does, but our laminate is also suitable for shipbuilding as it is covered by the Marine Equipment Directive (MED).??
To promote the collection of laminates that EGGER has to offer, a range of new marketing tools have been developed to show each and every decor. All 108 decors in EGGER??s ZOOM range are available in laminate, MFC and ABS edging from stock.
