A roof to save the books
Midland Single Ply Roofing??s refurbishment of an historic University of Oxford library using the Sika Sarnafil roofing system saw the contractor shortlisted at the recent Roofing Awards 2012. Part of the Bodleian Libraries complex, the Sackler Library had a roof that was suffering from condensation problems, which posed a real threat to the books housed below.
The Midland Single Ply Roofing team had to overcome a number of practical and security constraints to install the new Sika Sarnafil roof. The refurbishment saw the team strip the library??s existing lead roof covering together with part of the timber structure below, then install a vapour control layer, insulation and a Sika Sarnafil G410-12ELF membrane in Lead Grey with lead batten rolls. With a museum linked to the library repeatedly targeted by thieves during earlier building works, security was also a key consideration.
