The third edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial is now open to the public, bringing together more than 80 contributors from 22 countries, and engaging over 50 partner sites and 100 partner organisations across the city. This year?s biennial, titled …and other such stories, explores the way architecture shapes, and is shaped by, culture, history, and nature around the world, asking critical questions about how architecture has informed our present, and the power the field has to shape a better, more sustainable, and more equitable future.

ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture

This November, more than 6,500 attendees will travel to San Diego, California to take part in ASLA’s Conference on Landscape Architecture. The annual conference is the largest gathering of landscape architects and allied professionals in the world. Attendees come together to learn about advancements in the field, build invaluable relationships with their peers, and see the newest and most innovative technology pushing the profession forward at the annual EXPO. ASLA is working to reduce the carbon footprint of the Conference this year. Attendees are invited to join ASLA in this effort by purchasing offsets for carbon emissions generated by conference-related travel at the time of registration. Registration is open now.

Discover! Creative Careers Week

Discover! Creative Careers Week is a new nationwide initiative, part of the Creative Careers Programme backed by the DCMS, which will see up to 30,000 students aged 11+ going behind the scenes at 500 creative industries organisations across England. Created to showcase the broad spectrum of careers that can be pursued in the creative industries, employers opening their doors range across 12 sectors including film, architecture, theatre and video games.

In architecture, organisations will include XSite Architecture in Newcastle on Tuesday 19th November. Students will spend the day in the Ouseburn Valley experiencing an introduction to architecture and the design process in action. Activities will include an observation exercise; a session showing the students how their very own school was designed including digital surveys, interactive 3D computer model, design concept and process, attitudes to existing listed buildings and finished result; and an overview of how the Stephenson Quarter, where the school is, is being transformed as a key part of the city.
